Supporting diverse faculty in academic research

This one is for your campus Provost/VPAA and others who support diverse faculty/researchers on campus.

Please forward it to them. Thank you in advance! - Missy

Higher Education is a complex environment. While we aim to support diverse faculty, the facts remain:

1) Established research shows that BIPOC scholars tend to face structural realities on college and university campuses that constrain their capacity to write and publish.

2) Compared to their white colleagues, faculty of color often conduct disproportionate levels of service; remain stuck at the associate professor rank; and face extra scrutiny of their theories and methods.

I'm grateful that award winning professor and Freedom Scholar, Dr. Nadine Naber, is addressing this issue head on through her workshop, Liberate Your Research.

The 3.5 hour (in person or virtual) Liberate Your Research workshop provides college and university administrators a path towards supporting and retaining BIPOC faculty and graduate students. It equips BIPOC scholars with tools for navigating the parts of the academic experience that feel oppressive and deflating while courageously transforming the pressure and uncertainty created by the academic ecosystem into an abundant capacity to boldly articulate one’s scholarly theories, methods and contributions.

Dr. Naber has delivered this workshop for dozens of universities including NYU, Purdue, Georgetown, and Harvard. She has received glowing testimonials about her approach to healing diverse academic communities while also encouraging diverse faculty/graduate students to move forward in their academic writing with a sustained, authentic voice.

I welcome you to learn more about Liberate Your Research (LYR) here. Please be in touch if I can answer any questions or connect you with Dr. Naber. You can also complete the SHORT inquiry form at the bottom of this page.

PS - Dr. Naber is also able to deliver this workshop to other diverse populations - e.g. LGBTQIA, those with disabilities, etc. She can deliver it for any academic discipline, too.

Gratefully,

Missy Gluckmann

One of Liberate Your Research's glowing testimonials:

I cannot recommend this workshop highly enough. Nadine inspired participants in this workshop to approach our research with joy and confidence. She gave us the tools to quell the oppressive criticism many of us have internalized that undermines our writing; she gave us a space to emotionally process, analyze, and refuse in good company the violence of an academy and she provided us with concrete strategies and suggestions that enabled us to articulate and claim our theories and methodologies.

Hello! Want to know what Fiddleheads (a plant!) and hurricanes have to do with Jewish American Heritage Month?I'm a little late for April Fool's Day - but the answer is "Nothing that I'm aware of!" - except that they both landed in this email. ;) (I know....you're quietly telling me to keep my day job and skip the humor. LOL! So back to that...) I read two very cool articles this week - one on fiddleheads and the other related to a hurricane. Check them out here: 1) Have you eaten...

Who else is blown away by the power of AI while simultaneously being freaked out by it? (My hand is raised!) My days are now full of AI powered meeting notes landing in my inbox after zoom meetings. I'm amazed, but also wonder what human experience is being lost in the process. Do you think about how to harness the power of AI, yet still take the best of what humans have to offer to craft an ideal interaction with customers? If so, you'll be excited to hear that we have a new AI talk for you...

I'm surely excited about Women's History Month! Women’s History Month is an annual observance in March to recognize the accomplishments, contributions, and historical significance of women. It also encourages reflection on the progress made in gender equality while acknowledging the ongoing challenges women face worldwide. Good news! We are highlighting four speakers for this month's celebration. We have added a new talk to recognize that 47% of women in the US workforce are mothers (who...
